A soldier from Sacramento has died from wounds suffered in Iraq, the Department of Defense announced Wednesday.

The government said Sgt. Michael K. Clark, 24, died in Mosul on Oct. 7 after he was shot while on patrol.

"His dedication and service to our country is an inspiration to us all and he will forever be remembered," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said Wednesday in a prepared statement.

Clark was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division from Fort Carson, Colo.
